Couple Therapy Intensives

Is Your Marriage Struggling or Falling Apart?

A Private Marriage Intensive or Couple’s Retreat May Be The Answer.

What Is a Marriage Intensive?

A Marriage Intensive is a private, personalized therapeutic experience lasting two full days. Unlike group retreats or standard counseling, this intensive is designed for just one couple at a time, ensuring complete focus and tailored support.

Your therapist will be Dr. Heath Lisenby, DMin, LMHC, who brings over 25 years of experience in counseling and ministry and thousands of hours of experience working with couples.

Through 12 hours of focused counseling, you and your spouse will:

  • Gain clarity on what’s really driving your struggles

  • Learn how your personal histories and emotional patterns impact your relationship

  • Practice communication and conflict tools in real-time

  • Reconnect emotionally, physically, and spiritually.

The result? Breakthroughs that last — whether you're on the verge of separation or simply seeking a powerful relationship reset.

Backed by Research

Numerous studies confirm that concentrated therapy formats like intensives produce faster and more durable results than traditional weekly models—especially for couples in distress. The uninterrupted time fosters emotional safety, deeper vulnerability, and rapid insight that simply isn’t possible in shorter sessions.

According to the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, couples who engage in intensive therapy report greater satisfaction and sustained improvements long after the experience.

Is this right for us?

IT MAY BE IF —

YOU ARE FEELING STUCK. What you’ve been doing is not working, and you are tired of banging your head against the wall.
YOU'RE WILLING TO DO THE WORK. Both of you desire to feel connected again or to end the constant conflict, and you want to do what it takes to get there.
YOU WANT TO MOVE QUICKLY. If you’re experiencing issues that need to be dealt with soon or just want to share an immersive experience with your partner.
YOU ARE WILLING TO INVEST THE TIME AND RESOURCES NEEDED. Both of you are in agreement about committing the time and funds needed to move your relationship forward.

IT MAY NOT BE IF —

YOU ARE NOT EXCLUSIVE. There is an undisclosed or current affair that either partner is unwilling to give up. This could include a physical or emotional affair. Both partners need to be all-in.
THERE IS ABUSE IN THE RELATIONSHIP. There is serious violence in your relationship, threats by one or both partners that serious violence might occur, or fear of serious violence.
YOU ARE DEALING WITH AN ACTIVE ADDICTION. One of you has an active sexual, alcohol and/or drug addiction that is not being addressed by a recovery program or individual/group therapy.
YOU HAVE SUICIDAL OR HOMICIDAL THOUGHTS. Either partner is seriously thinking of harming themselves or others, or has a history of serious suicide attempts or harm to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When it comes to investing in therapy for your marriage, it’s understandable to want to feel confident in making the right choice. An article published by The Wall Street Journal highlights the benefits of Intensives.

According to the article, Counseling Intensives bring about incredible transformations in relationships in a very short period of time. The journalist documented the many ways that Intensives provide couples with an opportunity to delve deeply into their issues, achieve powerful breakthroughs in communication, and experience lasting connection and overall improved relationship satisfaction.

For those interested in learning more about the benefits of 2 Day Intensives and how they can positively impact a relationship, reading the full article here.

  • A 2 Day Intensive This intensive is ideal for couples who:

    • Feel stuck and need immediate, structured help

    • Are facing a relationship crisis and want to prevent divorce

    • Have plateaued or made little progress in traditional therapy

    • Desire a powerful relationship tune-up with focused attention.

Whether you're rebuilding from betrayal or ready to deepen your bond, this experience can help reignite the connection you once shared—and create a new foundation that lasts.

The intensive approach offers a more impactful and efficient alternative to traditional 55-minute sessions. In a typical 55-minute session, valuable time is consumed by initial check-ins and closing discussions, leaving only around 35-40 minutes for substantial therapeutic exploration. In contrast, with a 2 Day Intensive you’re receiving a total of 12 hours of intensive therapy.

Considering a typical schedule of bi-weekly counseling sessions, which amounts to one session every two weeks, a 2 Day Intensive would be the equivalent of six months of bi-weekly counseling sessions. The Intensive experience truly allows for a concentrated focus on life-changing work, providing substantial progress and insights over a very short period of time.

  • Upon booking your session, a non-refundable 50% deposit is due to secure your spot. The remaining balance is then due the morning of the first day of your Intensive.

While I am able to reschedule your Intensive with at least 3 weeks notice, please note that all payments are non-refundable. This policy is in place due to the highly personalized and unique nature of the 2 Day Intensives, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately to meet your specific therapeutic goals while also respecting the investment of my time and energy. If you need to reschedule, your deposit can be transferred to your rescheduled 2 Day Intensive.

  • Unfortunately, 2 Day Intensives are not covered by insurance for a variety of reasons. First, insurance companies often have strict criteria for reimbursable services, and the non-traditional format of Intensives do not meet these criteria. Additionally, the duration of Intensives, with longer sessions over a shorter period, do not align with insurance policies designed for shorter, weekly sessions. Furthermore, there are limitations on the types of counseling covered by insurance, and Intensives fall outside of these covered categories. Finally, the highly customized nature of Intensives can also pose challenges for insurance companies in standardizing reimbursement criteria. These factors collectively contribute to the unfortunate reality that insurance does not cover 2 Day Intensives.

  • Yes! If both spouses are motivated and willing to try something new, there’s definitely hope for change.
